Iconic Perfumes
Some perfumes such as Chanel No 5 are iconic and others such as Dior's Poison are distinc classics as is YSL's Opium. Women know the scent even if they don't wear it themselves. Youth Dew reminds us of a certain age group and some perfumes reflect their names, such as Clinque's perfume Happy.
Northern Southern Divide
A recent survey showed that Northern women in the UK prefer more floral perfumes whilst Southern women go for more musky scents. Those that live in Wales and the Midlands are the most traditional choosing scents such as Chanel No 5 as their favourite. Northern women wear perfume more frequently than those in the south and they stay clear of their partner's scents whereas Southern women often will squirt a touch of men's scent on their bodies. Northern women also buy a large bottle of their favourite perfume and stick to it whereas those women that live in the south of England will experiment with different fragrances.
